Recently use of herbal therapies and diet rich in flavonoids and vitamins has augmented significantly to manage minor to modest illnesses. But further studies are necessary to assess the pharmacological and toxicological effects of plants. Hence current study was intended to assess the pharmacologic and toxic effects of Nelumbo nucifera fruit ethanol extract. The qualitative phytochemical screening of the seed pods of the N. nucifera fruit extract exposed the existence of flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, tannins and terpenoids in it. The acute toxicity study of the N. nucifera fruit extract revealed its LD50value to be greater than 5000 mg/kg. N. nucifera fruit have exhibited strong anxiolytic, antidepressant and antiepileptic activities and that is perhaps both segments of the N. nucifera fruit (seed and seed pod) are rich in significant phytochemical constituents e.g. flavonoids and alkaloids. Flavonoids, saponins and tannins have also reported inhibitory effects on the arachidonic acid metabolism in various studies, hence it can be stated that the analgesic and anti- inflammatory effects of N. nucifera fruit may be due to the presence of these secondary metabolites in it. Present study has also revealed lipid lowering and antithrombotic effects of N. nucifera fruit. The inhibitory effect on lipid auto-oxidation and free radical scavenging activity of flavonoids, tannins and procyanidin might be a possible mechanism of its lipid lowering activity, whereas inhibitory effects of flavonoids and alkaloids (neferine and liensinine) on thromboxane A2 formation and platelet aggregation may be a reason of its antithrombotic effect. Present study also conducted sub-chronic toxicity studies which showed no substantial hematological, biochemical and histopathological changes in hepatic and renal tissues of most animals of treated groups, however hepatic and renal sections of few animals showed reversible mild to moderate inflammatory changes which were in agreement with biochemical alterations. Hence it can be concluded that N. nucifera fruit has enormous therapeutic potential and is highly safe for short term use but may be used in moderate doses if required for prolonged period; however more investigationsarerequiredinthisfieldtoconfirm these findings.

Conflict Between Religions a Study of Modern Approaches in Sῑrah Writing

The world has been changing ever since its creation, yet the pace of change in the last one hundred years or so has been the most rapid ever. The effects of these changes were beyond the limitations of time and region and therefore they directly affected the Muslim world as well. Muslim scholars did not ignore these changes and realized their responsibilities and wrote books of Sīrah which provided guidance in connection with these rapid changes and conditions. This research has highlight an important issue of the conflict between religions, its inception, history and primarily focused on the opinions of the authors of selected books of Sῑrah written in recent past. This research has also elaborated the modern approaches in Sῑrah writing. The study has mainly focused on significant Sῑrah books of three languages i.e. Arabic, English and Urdu. These books include Fiqh Al Sῑrah by Muḥammad Sa’īd Ramaḍān Al Būtī, Fiqh Al Sῑrah by Muḥammad Al Ghazālī, Madnī Mu‘āshrah by Akram Ḍīā Al ‘Umrī, The Life and the Work of the Prophet by Dr. Muḥammad Ḥamīdullāh, The Spirit of Islam by Sayīd Amīr ‘Alī, Muhammad A Biography of Prophet by Karen Armstrong, Sīrah Al Nabī by ‘Allāmah Shiblī Nu’mānī, Aṣaḥ Al Sῑyar by ‘Abdul Raūf Dānāpūrī, Ḍīā Al Nabī by Pīr Muḥammad Karam Shāh, Sīrati Sarwari ‘Alam by Abūl A‘lā Mūdūdī, Raḥmatullil'ālamīn by Qāḍī Muhammad Sulymān Manṣūrpūrī and Muḥammad Rasūlallāh by Sayīd Muḥammad Mīyān.

Dual Ban Mimo Dra

Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna technology is being used extensively to meet the current wireless standards. It consists of multiple transmit and receive antennas to increase the signal capturing power and throughput. However, to achieve these goals, it is necessary to keep the coupling between antenna elements in an acceptable range so that multiple signals can effectively be resolved. In most of the existing MIMO antennas, separate antenna elements are used for occupying spatial diversity technique. In such a diversity scheme, isolation enhancement techniques may effectively be applied between these antenna elements. However, in spatial diversity, multiple antenna elements occupy more space to be accommodated in the devices with size constraints. Moreover, at higher frequencies, losses of metallic antennas become severe which significantly degrade the performance of the MIMO system. Recently, a possible alternative to these metallic antennas has been introduced in the form of dielectric resonator antennas (DRAs). DRAs offer potential advantage of high radiation efficiency and negligible conductor losses. DRA supports more than one resonant modes at different frequency bands, enable to meet the requirements of different applications with a unique device. Multimode excitation feature in the DRA makes it a suitable choice for use in multiband MIMO applications. However, more critical and challenging issue is coupling between modes excited in the single DR volume, especially when used for dual-band MIMO applications. This is the reason that dual-band MIMO DRAs are rarely found in literature. This thesis is composed of two single-band and four dual-band MIMO DRA designs. The first single-band MIMO DRA is excited by means of symmetric microstrip feeding and other DRA is excited by means of hybrid feeding mechanism. It is observed that hybrid feeding provides more isolation between antenna ports. This concept is extended to the dual-band MIMO DRA designs using similar and hybrid feeding mechanisms. The first dual-band MIMO design consists of symmetric microstrip slot feeding for pattern diversity at both WiMAX and wireless local area network (WLAN) bands. In the second design, compactness is achieved by stacking the DRA with high a permittivity material. Orthogonal modes at the two bands are xi excited in the DRA by coaxial probes and coupling between two ports is reduced by means of defected ground structure (DGS). Almost 80 % volume reduction has been achieved in this design by means of stacking approach. The last two designs presented in this work are based on hybrid feeding mechanism. Both of the dual-band MIMO DRAs have also been investigated for geometric scalability of the designs. As the resonant frequency of the DRA is inversely related to its dimensions, therefore, same design with different dimensions can be operated on other frequency bands as well. This property is termed as geometric or size scalability of the design. This re-sizing or scalability of the dual-band MIMO DRAs is a very interesting property and has not yet been investigated in literature. Frequency ratio is the ratio of higher band to the lower band which is an important parameter in the dual-band designs. Frequency ratio as a result of design scalability has also been presented in this work
