A population of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) was investigated in this research for changes in metabolite profiles in the leaves of different ages i.e. penultimate (second fully expanded leaf from the top), middle (a leaf from the central position of a tiller) and bottom (a lowermost green leaf on a tiller) with changing seasons round the year for two consecutive years (2010-2011). Measurements were made for some primary and secondary metabolites while the essential oils profile of leaves was analyzed using GC-MS. The photosynthetic pigments displayed sharp variations in the leaves of different ages with changes in the environmental conditions. Higher chlorophyll a, b and carotenoid were recorded during summer months. The accumulation trends of osmolytes in lemongrass showed notable seasonal variation. The accumulation of total free amino acids, free proline and GB were higher during summer months. The antioxidant enzymes minimized the effect of oxidative damage by scavenging H 2 O 2 and reuced MDA contents in extreme environmental conditions especially during summer. The younger leaves of lemongrass exhibited much higher concentrations of vitamins as compared to bottom leaves. The secondary metabolites i.e. alkaloid, phenolic and flavonoid contents in lemongrass leaves were markedly increased with increased temperature. Seasonal variation affected the nutritional profile of lemongrass substantially. The production of NDF ADF, ADL, cellulose and starch was greater during summer. Cellulose and silica contents were higher in bottom leaf possibly due to plant aging. Starch content was higher in penultimate leaf, which declined with leaf age. Mineral concentration of lemongrass appears to be largely dependent on temperature and evapotranspiration. The GC-MS analysis of lemongrass oil carried out in the leaf samples collected during January, April, July and October revealed that out of 54 compounds analyzed, neral, citral, geranial, allerthin, caryophyllene oxide were major ones synthesized in various sesasons.

تعلیمات اسلام قیام امن کی اساس سیرت طیبہ کی روشنی میں

This article highlights the Islamic and the prophetic teachings regarding the promotion of peace. The human progress is directly associated with peace. The so-called peacemakers of the world have failed in their insincere and incompetent quest for peacekeeping, rather, they they have contributed to deteriorate peace furhter. Islām and its prophet (ﷺ) present the impeccable and practical methods and methodology to establish and maintain peace in society. We find that in all his roles and status, the prophet (ﷺ) of Islām is a symbol and model of peace. The very words of Islām and Muslim are the titles, enogh to indicate the approach of Islām towards peace. The author of this paper draws the attention of the readers that in its beliefs, ethical teachigs, laws, and rituals of worship, the sole aim of the Islām is to enhance and promote peace at the individual, as well as, the collective level. The scope of peace in Islām is not confined to the Muslims only, it includes the nonMuslim, too. Further, it encompasses animals and vegetation in its fold of peace. This is what the world needs to focus on and admit; and the media needs to highlight and promote, so that, the real image of Islām may come to fore and the false propaganda against it die away.

Introducing Time Delays in Process Hitting Framework of Biological Regulatory Networks

Modelling and simulation of molecular systems helps in understanding the behavioural mechanism of biological regulation. Time delays in production and degradation of expressions are important parameters in biological regulation. Constraints on time delays provide insight into the dynamical behaviour of a Biological Regulatory Network (BRN). A recently introduced Process Hitting (PH) Framework has been found efficient in static analysis of large BRNs, however, it lacks the inference of time delays and thus determination of the constraints associated with the evolution of expression levels of biological entities of BRN is not possible. In this thesis, we propose a Hybrid Process Hitting scheme for introducing time delays in Process Hitting Framework for dynamical modelling and analysis of Large Biological Regulatory Networks. It will provide valuable insights into the time delays corresponding to the changes in the expression levels of biological entities thus possibly helping in identification of therapeutic targets. The proposed framework is applied to a well-known BRNs of Bacteriophage λ and ERBB Receptor-regulated G1/S transition involved in the breast cancer to demonstrate the viability of our approach. Using the proposed approach, it was possible to perform goal-oriented reduction of the BRN and also determine the constraints on time delays characterizing the evolution (dynamics) of the reduced BRN. The proposed Hybrid Process Hitting methodology is applied to a considerably large BRN of Apoptosis Pathway comprising of 90 entities for obtaining the dynamical properties of this pathway. The determination of constraints on time delays corresponding to the evolution of entities for the reduced BRN (entities involving feedbacks) was successfully computed using the new methodology. The chemical reactions as well as the biological interactions are all stochastic in nature and could, therefore, assume any rate of change within the range of delays determined through Hybrid Modeling. The same has thus been extended to Stochastic Modeling using Stochastic Petri Nets (SPNs) in which the random delay in firing of the transitions aptly captures the stochastic behaviour of changes in expression levels of genes. The proposed scheme was found to be more efficient than existing methodology and less computationally intensive. It was applied to the mucus production in Pseudomonas Aeruginosa BRN and results obtained from Stochastic Petri Nets are in agreement with the Hybrid Modeling results which establishes the accuracy of this approach as well as provide more insight in the dynamical behaviour of BRNs through simulation.
