In this thesis the structural, elastic and electronic properties as well as electric field gradient of the strongly correlated intermetallics LnX3 (Ln = La-Gd, X = In, Sn) have been investigated by using the full potential linearized augmented plane wave plus local orbital (FP-LAPW+lo) method within the framework of density functional theory. The structural properties of these compounds are calculated by LDA, GGA, meta-GGA, WC, B3PW91, LDA+U and GGA+U schemes. The calculated lattice parameters are found consistent with the available experimental results. Our results show contrac- tion of lattice constant along the series and the divalent state of Eu is also verified. The itinerant and localized behavior of electrons in f -states of these compounds is also discussed. These compounds have 4f orbitals and hence strong electron-electron correlation effect is expected, therefore, the electronic properties are also calculated with the Hubbard potential U (GGA + U and LDA + U) and the effect of Hubbard potential on the density of states is discussed in details. The relativistic effects are also considered by including the spin-orbit coupling (SOC). The spin-orbit coupling predict the correct electronic properties and also reveals the splitting of 4f states of the rare-earth elements. It affects the band structures of the compounds and induces non-degeneracies in some degenerate states in the vicinity of the Fermi level. Furthermore, the SOC effect increases from left to right in the lanthanide series in the LnIn3 and LnSn3 , which shows interesting nature of SOC effect in the periodic table. The elastic constants of these compounds are also calculated. Our calcu- lated values for the elastic constants of the compounds are closer with the available experimental values as compared to the other theoretical results. The mechanical properties for the compounds under studies such as shear iii modulus, bulk modulus, Young’s modulus, Kleinman parameters, anisotropic ratio, Poisson’s ratio, Lame’s coefficients are also determined . The Cauchy pressure and B/G ratio are also investigated to evaluated the ductile and brittle nature of LnIn3 and LnSn3 compounds. The Sound velocities for shear and longitudinal waves, and Debye temperature also explored on the basis of mechanical properties. The Electric field gradients (EFG) are also calculated for the rare-earth intermetallics LnIn3 and LnSn3 (Ln = La, Ce, Pr and Nd) using the GGA, GGA + U, as well as GGA + SOC. Our results show that the EFGs calculated by GGA+U approach are in better agreement with the available experimental values of the M ̈ssbauer spectroscopy as compared to the other theoretical schemes. Our results show nonzero EFGs at rare-earth sites in the AFM phase. The present research will add some theoretical understanding of these materials and will also fill the gap about some of the physical properties of these compounds in literature.

This study sheds light on the life of an important figure that has had a great impact on humanity throughout history and that is the personality of Prophet Yūsuf Al-Siddīq “Joseph the Truthful”، peace and blessings of God be upon him. Since sources cited different narratives revolving around the events in the Prophet’s life، the researchers aimed to explore such events in the archived sources pertaining to his life. The inductive comparative method was used to conduct this thorough study of Prophet Joseph’s biography. Having defined the meaning of the name of the Prophet Yūsuf Al-Siddīq “Joseph the Truthful”، the names of the Prophet’s ancestors were traced and explored based upon a documented proof of his genealogical ancestry. The study also sheds light on the Prophet’s homeland where he was born and raised.  The study also explores the qualities of beauty that God bestowed on Prophet Joseph. Moreover، the study also discusses the Prophet’s morals، ethics and disposition. The study concludes with an investigation into the marriage of Prophet Joseph، peace be upon him.

Multiuser Communication Techniques Based on Ofdm

This thesis deals with the development of a sophisticated multiple access communication technique, Multicarrier Interleave Division Multiple Access (MC-IDMA) and improve- ments in Orthogonal Frequency Division Mulltiplexing-Space Division Multiple Access (OFDM-SDMA) for uplink transmissions. Although different in names both theses tech- niques endeavour to describe a wide range of upcoming communication algorithms and to incorporate three key features that will be common to the next generation communication systems: multiple access capability, resistance to multipath fading and high bandwidth efficiency. The performance of the both systems is demonstrated in the presence of channel impairments. OFDM is almost completely immune to multipath fading effects and IDMA has mul- tiuser capability. MC-IDMA attempts to combine these features, so that we can have Inter Symbol Interference (ISI) free higher data rates for multiple users simultaneously. MC-IDMA uses chip level interleavers as the only means of user separation and de- votes the entire bandwidth expansion to low rate Forward Error Correcting codes (FEC) which provide additional coding gain not present in conventional Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) or Multicarrier-Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) systems. An iterative Chip-by-Chip (CBC) multiuser detection algorithm is exploited to sup- press the channel fading and Multiple Access Interference (MAI). To further improve the performance, adaptive subchannel algorithm is used to transmit information only on good conditioned subchannels. To support high order modulations, Multicode MC- IDMA is proposed which can enhance the data rate at the expense of slightly higher power to achieve the same BER. A simplification in a channel estimation algorithm for MC-IDMA system is suggested and the concept of pilot chips is introduced which is a feasible approach because MC-IDMA systems use chip level interleavers and CBC de- tection algorithm. A noval channel estimation algorithm is presented which reduces the joint estimation into several single user estimation problems and increases throughput drastically saving a lot of transmission overhead. The complexity is analyzed and Bit viiError Rate (BER) is computed to depict the performance of MC-IDMA system. The re- sults show that the MC-IDMA system outperforms the conventional MC-CDMA system by supporting a large number of users with enhanced bit error rate performance. Next, a multiple antenna aided, Minimum Bit Error Rate (MBER) based Bell Lab- oratories Layered Space Time (MBER-BLAST) algorithm for OFDM-SDMA communi- cation is presented which overcomes the limitations of detectors when the number of users exceed the number of receiver antennas. A Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is employed for finding the optimum weight vectors for MBER Multiuser De- tector (MUD). PSO is well suited for physically realizable, real-time applications, where low complexity and fast convergence is of absolute importance. Maximum Likelihood (ML) detection algorithm is optimal but it uses exhaustive search and is prohibitively complex. The proposed algorithm outperforms the MBER detector and is capable of achieving performance similar to that attained by ML detector at a significantly lower complexity especially under high user loads. Results show that OFDM-SDMA when used with proposed algorithms promise substantially improved performance and can support throughputs as high as 11 bits/per chip at a BER of 10 −4 . It supports a large number of users by exploiting the capacity advantages of multiple antenna systems in rich scattering environments and offers a good performance-complexity trade-off.
