Unit Commitment is an important and vital optimization task in a power control centre. After load forecasting it is the second step in the planning process. It consists of two linked optimization problems. It comprises unit on/off scheduling problem and the economic dispatch sub-problem. The on/off scheduling problem is a 0-1 combinatorial problem with equality and inequality constraints, while the economic dispatch sub-problem is a nonlinear constrained optimization problem. Unit commitment is a nonlinear, large scale, combinatorial, constrained optimization problem. The complete unit commitment optimization problem is to minimize the total production cost (TPC) of utility in such a way that the constraints such as load demand, spinning reserve, minimum and maximum power limits of units, minimum up (MUT) and minimum down times (MDT) are satisfied. Therefore, based on the forecasted load demand, preparing proper on/off schedule of generators can result in cost saving for utility. It is much more difficult problem to solve due to its high dimensionality. The present work is based on the scheduling of thermal units. The generation of initial feasible UC schedules is much important, for the UCP. When initial feasible schedules (generation > load + spinning reserve) are generated randomly, it is difficult to get feasible schedules for the whole daily forecasted load curve. In this work initial schedule is generated by considering the peak, off peak load of the forecasted load curve, must run and must out units based on a new priority list method. The proposed method is very efficient and fast in generating initial unit commitment schedules. In this work the MUT and MDT constraints are checked and repaired by using bit change operator. The trial solutions were generated by taking upper four units in the priority list at each hour to avoid entrapment in local minimum.vi In the unit commitment problem, the economic load dispatch (ELD) sub-problem is an intensive part and its calculations consume a large amount of time. Convex economic dispatch using load to efficient unit and incremental cost criterion methods have been solved. In this work, the ELD calculation for non convex problem has been solved using genetic algorithm (GA) based on real power search method. In the present work, three hybrid approaches have been developed for the convex and non-convex cost functions and applied first time to solve the unit commitment problem. To implement these algorithms a flexible and extensible computational framework has been developed to run in visual C++ environment. The proposed algorithms are (i) “hybrid of dynamic programming, particle swarm optimization and artificial neural network algorithms (DP-PSO- ANN) for convex cost function, (ii) “Neuro-Genetic hybrid approach for non-convex cost function” and (iii) “hybrid of full load average production cost and maximum power output, for convex and non convex cost functions”. For comparison the neural network trained with back propagation learning rule has also been developed. The proposed models have been tested on IEEE 3 and 10 units standard test systems. The significant improvement in the total production cost shows the promise of these hybrid models. National utility system, National Transmission and despatch Company (NTDC) has been reviewed with reference to its operation problems. Four test systems consisting of 12, 15, 25 and 34 units of NTDC system have been tested.

افسوس ہے کہ ہماری قدیم تہذیب کی یادگاریں ایک ایک کر کے اٹھتی جاتی ہیں اور پرانی محفل اجڑتی جاتی ہے، ان ہی یادگاروں میں ایک چودھری محمد علی صاحب مرحوم ردولوی بھی تھے، وہ امراؤ شرفائے اودھ کی تہذیب کا نمونہ تھے، ان کی شخصیت بڑی دلکش و دلپزیر تھی، بڑے خوش مذاق، زندہ دل، بذلہ سنج حاضر جواب اور علم مجلسی کے بڑے ماہر تھے، ان کی ہر چیز میں خوبی و لطافت اور زبان وقلم دونوں میں بڑے دلکشی تھی، تحریر میں صاحب طرز ادیب اور خوش گفتاری میں ہزار داستان تھے، جس محفل میں بیٹھتے تھے اپنی خوش بیانی سے چھاجاتے تھے، ان کی تحریر میں سادگی کے ساتھ بڑی تازگی اور بے ساختگی تھی، اس طرز میں وہ منفرد تھے، اہل زبان حضرات میں بھی اس طرز میں لکھنے والا کوئی نہ تھا، مگر ان کی تحریر اور گفتگو دونوں میں اودھ کا پرانا بے فکری کا تفریحی مذاق غالب تھا اس لیے تحریر کا دائرہ ادب و افسانے تک محدود تھا، اور اسی میں ان کا طرز تحریر کھلتا بھی تھا سنجیدہ علمی و ادبی مباحث سے ان کو زیادہ دلچسپی نہ تھی، اگر کبھی بھولے سے اس کوچہ میں نکل آتے تھے تو اس میں بھی تفریحی رنگ پیدا ہوجاتا تھا، یہی حال ان کی گفتگو کا تھا، ان کی سنجیدہ گفتگو بھی لطائف و ظرائف سے خالی نہ ہوتی تھی۔

The Preservation and Authenticity of Ḥadīth As a Source of Sīrah: A Critique of Robert Spencer’S Views on Historicity of Muḥammad

The account of the deeds and sayings of the prophet (ﷺ) has been carefully preserved since the dawn of Islam. This is what actually led Ernest Renan to believe that “[Islam] was born in the full light of history”, and that the life of Muḥammad (ﷺ) can be known as explicitly as that of any sixteenth century reformer. Notwithstanding, some contemporary writers doubt the historicity of Muḥammad (ﷺ) ; Robert Spencer is one of them. He is an American author. He is quite famous for his criticism of Islam and the prophet of Islam. He has published twelve books so far. He is a member of Melkite Greek Catholic Church. He contends that Muḥammad’s (ﷺ) historical value is in no way greater and more reliable than mythological figures or characters such as Robin Hood and Macbeth. He maintains that the very idea of subjecting the traditionally accepted account of the life of Muḥammad (ﷺ) and the origins of Islam will be regarded by many Muslims as an affront. To substantiate his argument, he rigorously criticizes the historical value of ḥadīth. He argues that aḥādīth were fabricated and compiled in the third century. He maintains that aḥādīth were concocted much later to be used as weapons in political strife and religious controversies. This paper is an academic attempt to prove that aḥādīth were painstakingly preserved and for that purpose various techniques were employed. Besides, it also sheds light on the reasons for the fabrication of aḥādīth and the ways and means utilized for sifting the genuine aḥādīth from forgeries. Findings of this article suggest that the minute details of the life of Muḥammad (ﷺ) have been scrupulously preserved; hence aḥādīth can be used as a reliable source of Sīrah.

Synthesis, X-Ray Studies and Biological Evaluation of Thiazine Related Heterocycles

Number of thiazine related heterocyclic compounds were synthesized using various approaches to utilize indigenously available raw materials. The syntheses of targeted molecules were afforded by the easy to handle and cost effective routes with the high possible purity and yield. Synthesis of various 1,2-benzothiazine 1,1-dioxides was accomplished via Heck reaction using ligand free palladium catalyst. It involved synthesis of halogen containing sulfonyl chloride, alkyl/aryl sulfonamide, N-alkylation with different alkenyl groups by conventional methodologies followed by improved Heck cyclization with Pd(OAc) 2 /DIPA in 1-methyl-pyrolidin-2-one or toluene. In this way, two isomeric benzothiazines (with endocyclic & exocyclic double bonds) along with seven membered thiazipene products were obtained. It was also found that endocyclic product dominates over the exocyclic isomer. In accordance with the yield, endocyclic product and thiazipines were isolated in almost equal amounts (38.3% & 37.2%). Synthesis of [Cp*Ru(η 6 -((R)-8-(Hydroxy)-2-S-oxa-2-S-phenyl-2,1- benzothiazine))]Cl for their application as catalyst in chiral synthesis is was also accomplished. Chiral 2,1-benzothiazine derivative was employed to its complexation with cyclopentadiene-Ru salt under microwave radiations. One pot synthesis of a series of N-alkyl 1, 2-benzothiazine 1, 1-dioxide derivatives was carried out from commercially available saccharine with improved yield in less time avoiding extra work-ups. Number of carboxamide derivatives were also synthesized by reacting ester with different amines. Further, methyl 4-hydroxy-2H-1,2- benzothiazine-3-carboxylate-1,1-dioxide , N-alkylated derivatives methyl 4-hydroxy-2- methyl-2H-1,2-benzothiazine-3-carboxylate 1,1-dioxide, methyl 4-hydroxy-2-ethyl-2H- 1,2-benzothiazine-3-carboxylate 1,1-dioxide & methyl 4-hydroxy-2-propyl-2H-1,2- benzothiazine-3-carboxylate 1,1-dioxide , and carboxamide derivative N-(2-bromo-4- nitrophenyl)-4-hydroxy-2H-1,2-benzothiazine-3-carboxamide 1,1-dioxide were oxidized at C-3 carbon to get corresponding alcoholic products which were found dehydrated during crystallization process in methanol.
