Developments in information and communication technology have made it realistic to produce data at high rate, resulting to stress communication and computational infrastructure and making it difficult to store and transmit that data. To deal with these unbounded and continuous data streams is a sheer challenge for researchers from communication, data storage, computational and data mining domains because of its continuity, unbounded in nature, endless arrival and concept drifting with the passage of time. Extracting useful and hidden information from these ubiquitous data streams is one of the major goals during the last decade. Both supervised and unsupervised techniques of knowledge discovery were being researched e.g. clustering and frequent pattern mining. Frequent patterns reveal important and hidden information in the data and there are many application areas where these can be very helpful to improve overall performance of the system. Aims: Main objectives of this research are three-fold. Firstly our target is to review the existing scientific and analytical techniques addressing data mining in ubiquitous and continuous streams of data. Secondly, addressing data collected from ubiquitous devices and investigating device resources for local or centralized mining in streaming data environment. Finally, our focus is to devise comparatively efficient and accurate methodology for finding closed frequent itemsets in streaming data. Similarly, incorporation of contextual information in mining process is also addressed. Methods: As a first step of this research, we performed a regress review of existing scientific techniques and algorithms specifically designed to extract hidden information from the ubiquitous data streams and studied limitations and problem areas to develop a new and improved version of existing techniques. Then we performed analytical study on ubiquitous data mining resource restriction and limitations and comparison of centralized and distributed data mining in ubiquitous environment. Regarding the final aims of this research, we have developed a generic framework that is adaptable, scalable and incorporating contextual information to improve data mining results and outcomes.

Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response: A Secondary Analysis of Nepal’s Efforts

This paper presents Nepal’s experience regarding perinatal death surveillance and the country’s response in reducing preventable perinatal deaths. In developing this paper, evidence of perinatal mortality in Nepal is brought from secondary sources, mainly the assessment report of Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) system. As of 2019, this initiative has been implemented in 77 hospitals across Nepal. Challenges and barriers in implementing the MPDSR system need to be brought to attention, as the system is being scaled up to 110 hospitals. Data from the Perinatal Death Review revealed that 72% of the maternal deaths occurred during the post-partum period, due to (i) post-partum haemorrhage, (ii) hypertensive disorder, (iii) pregnancy-related infections, and (iv) non-obstetric causes. In 70% of the cases such deaths could have been prevented. Majority of perinatal deaths, at 71%, were stillbirths, mainly due to low child weight of less than 2500 grams. In conclusion, there is urgent need for the national guidelines for MPDSR system to be amended, additional and continued training provision to the health workforce, improvement in the coordination and feedback mechanism, and strengthening of the information management system

Enabling Teachers to Teach the Concept of Rights and Responsibilities More Effectively, Through Making and Using Teaching Material

The purpose of this project was to enable teachers to make and use teaching materials, in order to teach the concept of rights and responsibilities more effectively. Therefore, the whole project was developed to enhance the conceptual understanding of teachers regarding citizenship education, and rights and responsibilities and to develop their skills for resource development. In addition, I sought to raise their awareness regarding rights and responsibilities that affect the school's culture and the teaching and learning situation within the school. For this purpose, several activities were conducted during the implementation period, such as, workshops with the teachers, resource display activity, resource development sessions and demonstration lessons for the teachers to effectively teach the concept of rights and responsibilities. The whole project was monitored using qualitative information, and for this purpose different tools were used such as; questionnaire, observation, interviews. These tools were used at all stages for different purposes, i.e. in the pre-implementation period for needs assessment, during intervention for ongoing assessment, and post-intervention, for the overall evaluation of the project.
