Rate Optimization and Resource Allocation in Cooperative Cognitive Radio Networks The phenomenal rise in the number of connected devices and the demand for service quality and channel capacity in wireless networks is severely limited by the scarcity of available resources such as energy and bandwidth. New communications and networking paradigms such as cooperative communication and cognitive radio networks have emerged in recent years which can intelligently and efficiently utilize these resources. Cognitive radio enables the cognitive nodes or Secondary Users (SUs) to sense any opportunity for transmission without degrading the Primary Users (PUs) transmission. This helps in efficient utilization of the available radio spectrum. Cooperation among PUs and SUs can greatly enhance the performance of the cognitive radio network. In this thesis, we have considered various spectrum access strategies in Cooperative Cognitive Radio Networks (CCRNs) using distributed matching algorithms in order to optimize the PU and/or SU sum-rate. SUs cooperatively relay PUs messages based on Amplify-and-Forward (AF) and Decode-and-Forward (DF) cooperative techniques, in exchange for accessing some of the spectrum for their secondary communications. From the literatures, we found that the Conventional Distributed Algorithm (CDA) and Pragmatic Distributed Algorithm (PDA) aim to maximize the PU sum-rate resulting in a lower sum-rate for the SU. In this contribution, we have investigated a suit of distributed matching algorithms. More specifically, we investigated SU-based CDA (CDA-SU) and SU-based PDA (PDA-SU) that maximize the SU sum-rate. We have also proposed the All User-based PDA (PDA-ALL), for maximizing the sum-rates of both PU and SU groups. All schemes are investigated under the idealistic scenario involving perfect coding and perfect modulation, as well as under practical scenario involving actual coding and actual modulation. Explicitly, our practical scenario considers the adaptive coded modulation based DF schemes for transmission flexibility and efficiency. More specifically, we have considered the Self-Concatenated Convolutional Code (SECCC), which exhibits low complexity, since it invokes only a single encoder and a single decoder. Furthermore, puncturing has been employed for enhancing the bandwidth efficiency of SECCC. As another enhancement, physical layer security has been applied to our system by introducing a unique Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) based puncturing to our SECCC scheme. Furthermore, we present a secrecy sum-rate maximization based matching algorithm between PUs and SU cooperative jammers in the presence of an eavesdropper. We present the achievable secrecy regions by employing friendly jammers which transmit noise to impair the eavesdropper’s ability to decode the message. The cooperative jammers are allocated a fraction of the bandwidth in compensation for their help to transmit jamming signals towards the eavesdropper, which in our case is an untrusted relay node. We provide results for the secrecy rate regions, where we consider only relaying link between the source and the destination. We also provide results for the secrecy rate regions when we consider a direct link between the source and destination in addition to the relaying link. The Conventional Distributed Algorithm (CDA) and the Pragmatic Distributed Algorithm (PDA), which were originally designed for maximizing the user’s sum rate, are modified and adapted for maximizing the secrecy sum-rate for the primary user. In the end we considered a scenario such that a single PU can acquire help from multiple SUs. More explicitly, we consider an untrusted relay scenario, where the relay is a potential eavesdropper. The transmission of the proposed scheme is divided into three time slots, i.e., broadcast and jamming phase, relaying phase and the jammer’s secondary transmission phase or utility phase. We employ multiple jammers where we first fix the position of two jammers and study the behavior of introducing another moving jammer to maximize the secrecy further. We consider a leader-follower game theoretic model where the primary user (source) is the leader and the secondary users (jammers) are the followers. To facilitate the behavior of cooperative jammers, a Nash equilibrium based power control mechanism is employed. We consider two scenarios for our power control mechanism, where in the first case the jammers simultaneously transmit their information (non-orthogonal) during the jammer’s utility phase, while in the second case the jammer’s utility time slot is divided equally among the participating jammers (orthogonal) to mitigate interference caused by the participating jammers.

Moral Dichotomy: Coetzee’s Stance on Moral Dilemma in Postmodernist Society in Disgrace

Coetzee anticipates the moral dilemma of today's individuals, in order to achieve his aim torevert the current trends in moral philosophy which has marked morality with individual partialities. The morality of self/will has pervaded in the society with substantial philosophical argumentation as well. This research intends to study Dionysian morality in comparison with modern (Appolonian) principles of morality as presented by Coetzee. The research is planned to differentiate the two by presenting their roots with logical reasons; Nietzsche's conception of morality and the need of Freudian repression. In the context of Disgrace Coetzee developed his moral theory through circumstantial justice with such a force that all reasons given by Overman (Übermensch) of Nietzsche fail. The paper will unveil the relationship of power and the need for justice. Coetzee proves the importance of Freudian Repression Theory that makes everybody responsible for the concord in a society. The cultivation of Dionysian concept of life only brings disgrace to man, and such philosophies can only be supported when the individual is in power, vulnerability in the society makes man to understand the value of morality and exercise of proper judicial system. South Africal context of the novel situates the anticipation of Dionysian cult in more understanding way to the audience. To avoid social Darwinism, state institutions should come in action in order to ensure the equal power distribution among the masses. Uneven distribution of power creates only oppressors and victims in the society, which further lead society to chaos. Coetzee proves the importance of circumstantial justice over the institutional justice, as institutional justice can punish only but the transformation of transgressor only takes place with circumstantial justice and for the betterment of society, transformation provides better results than punishment because institutions do create a different power structures that also work to suppress people.

Predictive Role of Personality Traits in Compulsive Buying Behavior: Mediating Effect of Attitude Towards Advertising

Compulsive buying behavior is a phenomenon that has received significant attention of the researchers in the field of psychology, consumer behavior and marketing. It is an addictive propensity arises from the urges for buying something. Under this behavior buying is a source of relief from stress but ultimately disturb usual functioning. Researchers concluded that compulsive buying behavior is goal-oriented behavior and it depends upon psychological and environmental stimuli. The current study analyzes the psychological viewpoint of consumer?s compulsive buying behavior.Study also analyzes how attitude towards advertising is related with compulsive buying behavior and personality traits.Current study is valuable to the literature in following ways. Firstly, study presents broad dialogue on consumer?s compulsive buying behavior. Secondly, it discusses the bearing of personality traits on the psychological motives of consumer and it also discusses the role of attitude towards advertising on the psychological motives i.e. compulsive buying behavior. Thirdly, framework of the research verifies the social cognitive theory and acknowledges that cognitions and environment has strong effect on the consumer buying behavior and development of personality traits. Data for current study is collected from a sample of 250 shoppers of departmental stores. Out of 250 responses 210 found as complete and included in data analysis. Regression analysis employed to test hypotheses and Baron and Kenny?s (1986) method is adopted to test mediation. The results suggest that consumer?s personality traits have significant association with compulsive buying behavior as well as attitude towards adverting is an important construct to understand the association of personality traits and compulsive buying behavior. Results of the study expressed that attitude towards advertising act as partial mediator in the relationship of compulsive buying behavior and personality traits. Current study is a valuable addition in the literature of marketing research and the finding of the study would be helpful for researcher, retailers, decision makers and advertisers. Implication for policy makers would be development of consumer laws. Advertiser and decision authorities are directed to devise educational programs form such consumer to protect them from negative consequences. As in extreme conditions compulsive buying behavior leads to severe financial problems. For researcher it is beneficial for the further understanding of the compulsive buying behavior in context of personality traits.
