The philosophy of inclusive education has developed from the long history of global educational reforms since 1948 that, seek to reinforce the principles of Education as a Human Right. These legislations over the years culminated into the Salamanca Statement (1994) of inclusion, which was signed by 92 nations of the world, with the number having increased over the last 11 years to 164 nations currently (UNESCO, 2005). The target is that by 2015, these nations should have realized basic Education for All (EFA) through their national goals and work plans for Universal Primary Education (UPE). This is a major challenge, especially for developing countries, where progress has been relatively slow (Eleweke&Rodda, 2000). UNESCO (1998) points out that majority of students with special needs, specifically those with disabilities, remain excluded from schools; therefore, a major challenge for these nations to realize the UPE goals by 2015. The World Bank report (2003) on EFA estimates that 40 million children out of the 115 million children, who are out of schools, are children with special needs. Inclusive Education (IE) is seen as the vehicle, through which the goals of EFA can be achieved. Inclusive Education means accommodating all children in mainstream schools regardless of their physical or individual differences. It is within this context of events that I conducted a case study research of a private inclusive school, focusing on the role of the principal in transforming a school to reach out to all learners through Inclusive Education. It is apparent that schools need to change their perspectives so as to recognize, value, and provide for diversity in curriculum. My study revealed that a principal can transform the school to reach out to all learners by restructuring the school philosophy to reflect positive behaviors and support for diversity; change school policies on admission, assessment and curriculum implementation in order to retain learners with special needs; show support for teachers through relevant professional development programs, provision of adequate time and resources; strong partnership and involvement of parents and community; and modeling and reinforcing inclusive education behaviors through hands-on site-management. The background of the study was based on my life story, that is being a parent of a child with special needs, as evidence of an insider's voice on the challenges of educating children with special needs.

LITERACY EDUCATION URGENCY FOR CENTENNIAL GENERATION IN INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION 4.0

When talking about children’s abilities, they indeed cannot be separated from their educational or training background. Moreover, he has entered the working age that must have productivity in his work, especially at this time, where the era has entered the industrial revolution 4.0. The industrial revolution 4.0 is marked by the development of digitalization in various lines of life. On the one hand, the industrial revolution 4.0 had many positive impacts. However, on the other hand, as the McKinsey Global Institute states that as a result of the 4.0 industrial revolution in the next five years, there will be 52.6 million jobs that will decline and even disappear. This certainly will be a challenge for the centennial generation (children born from 1996-2011) at this time, which they have to survive with the existing conditions and situations. This paper will discuss several factors that describe and address issues such as what is meant by the centennial generation, literacy, and the urgency of literacy education for the centennial generation in the digital age. According to authors, thi is essential to discuss, given the increasingly rapid development and technological progress resulting in the loss of much work.

Formulation and Evaluation of Polyherbal Preparations for Weight Loss

This study was aimed to prepare polyherbal formulations for weight loss considering six herbs: Allium sativum, Plantago ovata, Nigella sativa, Carum copticum, Trigonella foenum-graecum and Syzygium aromaticum. This study was carried out in five phases: Preparation and formulation, Pharmacological and biological activities, Phytochemical investigations, efficacy trial on animals (rabbits and guinea pigs) and human trials. Irradiation was performed using “Cobalt 60” (dosages of 10 and 5 kGy) as the source on polyherbal formulations for shelf life extension before using in efficacy trial. Crude methanolic extract (Crd. MeOH Ext.) and different fractions of all selected plants were investigated for various pharmacological and biological activities including, antibacterial, antifungal, phytotoxic and insecticidal. The pharmacological / biological investigations revealed that C. copticum possesses significant antifungal activity in Crd. MeOH Ext. against Trichoderma harzianum (91%), while Crd. MeOH Ext. of S. aromaticum showed significant activity against Penicillium oxalicum (85%), chloroform (CHCl3) extract of A. sativum showed significant activity against Verticillium lecanii (87%), Crd. MeOH Ext. of N. sativa showed significant antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (89%), Proteus mirabilis (96%), Bacillus cereus (89%) and Xanthomonas oryzae (88%). The plant materials showed significant phytotoxic effects against Lemna minor at higher concentrations; Crd. MeOH Ext. of N. sativa showed good growth regulation (75%) at 1000 µg/mL, moderate growth regulation (50%) at 100 µg/mL and low growth regulation in aqueous fraction (30%) at 10 µg/mL concentrations;Crd. MeOH Ext. of A. sativum, C. copticum and S. aromaticum showed significant insecticidal activity (90, 90 and 100%, respectively) against Tribolium castaneum. The phytochemical investigations showed that the quantity of tannin (0.54 mg/100 g), alkaloids (0.45 mg/100 g) and flavonoids (0.058 mg/100 g) was increased by the use of irradiations while vitamin C showed a slight decrease of 5 mg/100g. Efficacy trials on animals showed decrease in body weight and cholesterol level, while increased serum glutamic transaminase (SGPT) level. The alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin levels were normalised by the use of polyherbal formulations. Haemoglobin and platelets were increased in number, while monocytes, eosinophil, neutrophils and lymphocytes remained unchanged in both rabbits and guinea pigs. Human efficacy trials by use of polyherbal formulations for a period of two months exhibited decrease in body weight, body measurements, low density lipoprotein (LDL), alkaline phosphatase, fasting glucose and total cholesterol levels, while increase was observed in platelets count, haemoglobin level and high density lipoprotein (HDL) level. No changes were reported for monocytes, eosinophil, neutrophils and lymphocytes counts. For shelflife extension, the polyherbal formulations were exposed to different irradiation doses of 10 and 5 kGy (source: Cobalt 60) and then compared with un-irradiated samples. In this case, same results were found. Statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 16 was used for the calculation of results; two-way, one-way ANOVA and chi-square tests were used (P< 0.05).
